Join the Veteran Employment Commitment

The renewed Veteran Employment Commitment (VEC) recognises organisations for their current workplace policies and practices that support veteran employment. It offers guidance to implement or enhance veteran employment initiatives, aiding in better recruitment and retention of veteran employees.

The VEC now features three levels of recognition. Depending on the veteran employment activities your organisation has in place, you may be recognised as a:

  • Veteran Employment Supporter
  • Veteran Friendly Employer
  • Veteran Employer of Choice

In April 2024, in response to feedback from veterans and employers seeking assurance that initiatives were in place, a robust framework was implemented to identify and document activities advancing veteran employment at the organisational level. All interested organisations are required to complete an application form and supply evidence to join the VEC. The form requests information about your organisation, details of veteran employment activities and supporting documentation.

The previous model, including use of the previous logo, ceased on 30 November 2024. Profiles of organisations that joined under the previous VEC model have been removed from the Find a VEC member organisation webpage.

Learn from three of our Veteran Employers of Choice as they share their experiences and reflect on the benefits of joining the VEC in the video below.

The activities your organisation demonstrates will determine your VEC level. In the VEC, activities are grouped in three categories - Recruitment, Support and Retention, and Leadership and Public Commitment.

When your organisation joins the VEC, you will receive the following:

  • access to a range of resources and guidance to help you attract and retain veterans to your organisation.
  • a logo for use on your website and in other promotional and recruitment material to publicly recognise your organisation as a Veteran Employment Supporter, Veteran Friendly Employer or Veteran Employer of Choice.
  • a profile on www.veteransemployment.gov.au – this will link to your website and allow potential veteran recruits to find your organisation while highlighting the employment support your organisation offers.
  • regular communication from the Veteran Employment Program to keep you informed and connected.

To learn more before applying, watch our video below, read Apply for the Veteran Employment Commitment for step-by-step instructions, and view the VEC FAQs.

Please note: The online application form cannot be saved at any point and can time out if left unattended. You must complete it in one sitting. Preview the form to ensure you have all responses and supporting documentation collated before you begin your application.

Join the VEC today to demonstrate your commitment to better recruit, retain and support veteran employees, who bring with them a wealth of skills, experience and knowledge that will benefit your organisation.
