The NSW Government launched its Veterans Employment Program in May 2016 with a target to assist an additional 200 veterans to find suitable, sustainable and meaningful employment within the NSW Public Sector by 2019. The Program is the first of its kind for government in Australia, utilising unique methods, approaches and tools to make a strong impact across NSW Government.
The NSW Public Service Commission estimates that 523 former ADF personnel have been newly employed in NSW Government roles since the commencement of the Program, demonstrating that the Program has exceeded its target by 162%, 18 months ahead of schedule. This is represented as an overall increase in the proportion of veterans entering diverse roles not traditionally associated with veteran skills sets, a higher number of veteran applications each month and an improved success rate for veteran applicants. A number of tools have also been developed under the Veterans Employment Program to attract veterans to NSW Government roles.
