Chevron Australia is one of the world's leading integrated energy companies and has been present in Australia for more than 60 years.

As part of its commitment to an inclusive work environment, Chevron Australia’s Veterans Employee Network is ensuring veterans and reservists are represented and empowered in the workplace.

Established in 2019 and open to all members of the workforce, the Veterans Network is elevating the important conversation about the unique skills and perspectives brought to the workplace by veterans, with a particular focus on career development.

“Some members are ex-military or currently serving reservists, some have a connection to the defence force through a family member or friend, others are just keen to support and understand more about those who serve in the defence forces,” said Veterans Network Committee Member Darren Wright.

“It’s about valuing the uniqueness and diversity of our colleagues’ experiences, so that we can learn from and support each other as well as producing better business outcomes.”

Through its mentorship program, Veterans Network members are assisting fellow employees to develop resilience and leadership qualities, as well as developing skills of their own as a mentor. Other network initiatives include ANZAC Day services at Chevron’s remote operational sites, raising funds for Legacy and the RSL and social events for members.

Chevron Australia was recently awarded the Defence Reserves Support Council’s ‘WA Employer Support Award,’ in the category of Private Sector Large Business, for its policies, programs and services that support reservist employees.

“Our military leave policy empowers people to realise their full potential as Chevron Australia employees and members of the Reserves,” said Chevron Australia Production Coordinator and Navy Reservist Peter Velterop.

“It gives me a great sense of comfort knowing that if I were to be called upon to serve in an operational role, my income and my employment would be protected for the duration of any deployment.”
