Excellence in Supporting Veterans' Employment

This category is open to recruitment, employment and other specialist organisations who work, either solely or in part, in supporting veterans' employment and not-for-profit and ex-service organisations that assist veterans to prepare for and find civilian employment.
Nomination criteria Hints

Demonstrated excellence in support provided and outcomes achieved.

Some examples could include, but are not limited to, whether your organisation has:

  • introduced training programs for your employees to ensure they understand the ADF experience and how military skills translate into the civilian workplace
  • established individual and/or group training programs to assist veterans in getting job ready and in understanding the typical civilian workplace environment including processes, structures, reporting lines etc.
  • developed resources to assist veterans in understanding how their individual ADF skills translate into civilian terms
  • developed veteran-specific resources or training programs for organisations to assist them in the recruitment, onboarding and retention of veterans, including helping them understand the ADF experience, ADF to civilian skills translators, ADF to civilian language translator
  • established employer networks to direct source employment opportunities, internships and or work placements
  • promoted the benefits of employing veterans and educated organisations about the ADF experience
  • introduced ongoing veteran feedback mechanisms that are used to shape services and support provided to veterans.

Supporting evidence could include but is not limited to:

  • formal commitment to provide equal employment opportunities to veterans and/or secure sustainable employment for a certain number of veterans
  • statistical information relating to the number of veterans placed into employment, the percentage of those still working and average length of employment since commencement
  • documented veteran-specific resources or training programs for organisations to assist in the recruitment, onboarding and retention of veterans including helping them understand the ADF experience, ADF to civilian skills translators, ADF to civilian language translator
  • documented/publicised individual and/or group training programs to assist veterans in getting job-ready and in understanding the typical civilian workplace environment including processes, structures, reporting lines, etc
  • listing of established employer networks to direct source employment opportunities, internships and or work placements
  • listing of relevant working groups, committees or forums that the organisation has established and/or participates in
  • brochures or other material promoting the benefits of employing veterans including sharing employer success stories with other organisations and/or the broader community
  • established feedback mechanisms which allow veterans and employers to provide feedback and seek support from the organisation as needed (including post placement)
  • positive feedback from users (e.g. non-veteran staff, successfully employed veterans) on programs, strategies, initiatives or resources developed and/or adopted by the organisation.

Evidence of client (veteran) satisfaction with service.

Some examples could include, but are not limited to, whether your organisation has:

  • received positive feedback from veterans through established mechanisms in relation to their job placement(s), alignment of employment opportunities with their individual ADF skills, aspirations and interests and overall services and support provided
  • received positive feedback through informal mechanisms
  • taken on new clients as a result of recommendations from other satisfied veterans
  • been nominated for and/or received any provider/industry/employer awards based on veteran nominations.

Supporting evidence could include but is not limited to:

  • documented feedback mechanisms including survey results, feedback provided by veteran to service provider
  • copies/excerpts of positive feedback received from veterans relating to their level of satisfaction e.g. posted on social media or the organisation’s website
  • copies of any nomination or award received by the organisation in recognition of services provided to veterans.
